Agile chassis composure and loads of grip, although light-feeling steering mars overall dynamic experience. Low-spec versions are front-wheel drive only.

Comfort

A superb driving position makes the A6 a great way to dispatch long journeys painlessly. Only chunky low-speed ride quality on big wheels really knocks refinement.

Quality

Every part of the A6 feels like a real class item, from its immaculate shutlines to the brilliantly crafted cabin.

Performance

All versions give strong urge, with the exception of the entry point 2.0 TDI diesel. S6 is mega-fast.

Roominess

Occupants enjoy loads of space front and rear and theres plenty of room for luggage too.

Costs

Competitive for the segment thanks to variable interval servicing and decent-to-good fuel economy. More powerful versions are expensive to insure.

Value

Against BMW and Mercedes rivals, the A6 stacks up very well on cost thanks to keen entry-level pricing and reasonable standard equipment. Some options are very expensive, though.

Stereo

The stereo system sounds good, although its low mounted position makes it a bit fiddly to operate. Optional satnav system works well and looks great.
